Day 1 Haridwar → Joshimath/Auli (270 km)
Drive via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Chamoli. Arrive Joshimath. Check-in. Cable car to Auli (optional). Overnight: Joshimath
Day 2 Auli Skiing / Gondola Ride

Nearest airport: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (280 km from Auli/Joshimath). Flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru. We arrange pickup from airport. The mountain drive is scenic but takes ~9 hrs.

Haridwar Railway Station is 270 km from Joshimath. Rishikesh station is 250 km. From the station, we drive you through scenic Garhwal Himalayas to Auli via Devprayag, Chamoli.

GMOU buses run from Rishikesh and Haridwar to Joshimath (the base for Auli). Journey takes 10–12 hrs. From Joshimath, cable car reaches Auli in 20 minutes. Chopta is accessible via Gopeshwar.

Auli ski season is typically December to March. March can still have good snow early in the month but it starts melting by mid-March. GMOU organizes Winter Games in January–February. For guaranteed skiing, visit December–February.
Q. How long is the Tungnath–Chandrashila trek?
From Chopta: Chopta → Tungnath Temple = 3.5 km (1.5 hrs) and Tungnath → Chandrashila Peak = 1.5 km (45 min). Total round trip: ~10 km, 5–6 hours. Moderate difficulty. Excellent fitness recommended.
Q. What is the Auli Gondola?
The Auli Gondola (cable car) is one of the longest ropeways in Asia at 4 km. It connects Joshimath to Auli ski resort in 25 minutes. Offers breathtaking views of Nanda Devi, Kamet, and surrounding peaks. Operational year-round (weather permitting).
Q. Can beginners ski at Auli?
Yes! Auli has slopes for all levels. GMOU (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) offers ski equipment rental and beginner ski lessons. The 4 km slope has beginner to intermediate sections. Professional instructors available for first-timers.
Q. Is Chopta accessible in winter?
Chopta road (via Gopeshwar) closes November–April due to heavy snow. In winter, you can reach only Dugalbitta (8 km before Chopta) and snowshoe/trek the rest. Auli remains accessible via gondola from Joshimath year-round.
Q. What wildlife can we see at Chopta?
Chopta is part of Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. You may spot Himalayan musk deer, Himalayan tahr, snow leopard (rare), Himalayan monals (state bird), and various Himalayan birds. The sanctuary has a rich biodiversity.
