Dev Yatra offers the best Auli Chopta tour package from Haridwar and Rishikesh covering Auli skiing, Gondola ropeway, Tungnath temple and Chandrashila trek in 5 days. Auli is India's premier skiing destination, situated at 2519m in the Chamoli district of Garhwal. The ski slopes here face south and receive consistent snowfall from November to March. The Auli Gondola — one of Asia's longest ropeways at 4 km — connects Joshimath to Auli in 25 minutes and gives views of Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana, and Dunagiri peaks throughout the journey. The ski slopes range from beginner to intermediate and GMOU (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) provides equipment rental and ski instruction on the slopes.

Chopta, known as the "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand," is a meadow at 2680m in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, about 75 km from Joshimath via Gopeshwar. The road passes through dense oak and rhododendron forests and the meadow itself is open with 360-degree views. Chopta is the base for the Tungnath–Chandrashila trek — one of the most accessible high-altitude treks in the Himalayas. Tungnath is the world's highest Shiva temple at 3680m and is reached by a 3.5 km trek from Chopta through forests and open slopes.

Chandrashila Peak at 4130m is a further 1.5 km above Tungnath and gives a 360-degree panoramic view of the Garhwal Himalayas including Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trisul, and Bandarpunch. The complete Tungnath–Chandrashila circuit (7 km return from Chopta) takes 5–6 hours and is rated moderate. Dev Yatra plans Auli & Chopta tour packages from Haridwar with accommodation at Joshimath and Chopta, the Gondola ropeway, and the Tungnath trek.

Planning Your Auli & Chopta Visit

Auli and Chopta are in different parts of Garhwal — plan accordingly. From Joshimath (Auli base), Chopta is 75 km via Gopeshwar. The drive is scenic but takes about 3 hours. For skiing at Auli, the snow season is December to March — January and February are most reliable. GMOU provides ski equipment rental (around ₹500–700 per hour) and beginner ski lessons on the slopes. The Gondola is the main attraction even for non-skiers — the views of Nanda Devi from the cable car are excellent.

The Tungnath–Chandrashila trek from Chopta is best done in April–June and October–November. Start the trek by 6 AM for clear morning views at Chandrashila. Carry warm layers even in May as it is cold at 4130m. The trail from Chopta is well-marked. Chopta road closes November–April due to snow — during winter, you can reach only up to Dugalbitta (8 km from Chopta) and snowshoe or trek the rest. Good fitness is required for Chandrashila; Tungnath alone is manageable for moderate walkers.
