5 Days · 3500m · Remote Uttarkashi Meadow · Gangotri Peak Views
Bagji Bugyal is a high-altitude alpine meadow in the Uttarkashi district of Garhwal Himalaya, situated at around 3500m. It is among the less commercially explored bugyals in the Uttarkashi region — far fewer trekkers come here compared to Dayara Bugyal or the Kedarkantha area. The meadow gives views of the Gangotri and Garhwal Himalayan range including Bandarpunch and Swargarohini peaks.
The trail to Bagji Bugyal starts from villages in the Tons river valley or Bhagirathi valley area of Uttarkashi district. The approach goes through dense forest — predominantly oak, rhododendron, and deodar — before the terrain opens into the high meadow. The wildflower season (May-June) brings colour to the meadow, and autumn (September-October) gives the clearest views of the surrounding peaks.
Bagji Bugyal is a good choice for those who have already done the popular Uttarkashi-area treks (Kedarkantha, Dayara Bugyal) and want to explore something less known in the same region. Dev Yatra organises Bagji Bugyal trek packages from Haridwar with Uttarkashi transport, local guide, camping, and all meals.
3500m bugyal in Uttarkashi with very few visitors. Genuine wilderness feel far from commercial trekking.
Bandarpunch (6316m), Swargarohini (6252m) and other Gangotri peaks visible from the bugyal.
Himalayan wildflowers carpet the meadow in May-June. Rhododendrons lower down in April.
Beautiful mixed forest approach through deodar, oak, and rhododendron.
FLOWER SEASON
Wildflowers in bloom. Rhododendrons in May. Clear Gangotri views. Best overall time.
AUTUMN
Clear skies and crisp air. Best Gangotri peak views. Less crowded. Good photography.
SNOW SEASON
Meadow under snow. Beautiful but cold. Trail may be difficult without winter gear.
All our treks start from Haridwar . Reach Haridwar first:
Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun (35 km from Haridwar). Flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru.
Haridwar Railway Station — overnight trains from Delhi take 5-6 hours.
Delhi ISBT to Haridwar by Volvo (6 hrs). State buses connect to all base towns.
Delhi to Haridwar 210 km (4-5 hrs via NH-58). Pickup from Delhi/Dehradun on request.
Bagji Bugyal is a good option specifically because very few people go there. The Uttarkashi district has several popular routes (Kedarkantha, Dayara) and Bagji is the alternative for those who prefer not to share a bugyal with dozens of other camps. The meadow at 3500m is expansive and the Gangotri range views are similar to Dayara but from a different angle. Take a good down jacket even in May or September — bugyal nights are cold regardless of season.
