Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary Trek — Zero Point Panorama & Kumaon Himalayan Views

The binsar wildlife sanctuary trek takes you into one of Kumaon's most pristine protected forests — a 47 sq km oak and rhododendron reserve in the Almora district, draped across the Jhandi Dhar ridge between 1800–2412m. Where is binsar wildlife sanctuary located? It sits 33 km from Almora and 210 km from Haridwar — accessible as a 3-day circuit from Haridwar or Delhi. The centrepiece is Zero Point (2412m), where a clear morning delivers a 300 km sweep of the Kumaon Himalaya: Nanda Devi (7816m), Panchachuli, Trishul, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, and over 50 named peaks in a single glance.

The sanctuary is famous for leopard, barking deer, Himalayan palm civet, red fox, and 200+ bird species — a top destination for birders and wildlife photographers. The birds checklist includes Himalayan Monal, Koklass Pheasant, Western Tragopan (rare), and dozens of Himalayan warblers and raptors. Best time to visit is October to February for clearest views; March–May brings rhododendron bloom. Entry fee and forest permits are included in all Dev Yatra packages — no separate formalities needed.

Dev Yatra offers a complete binsar wildlife sanctuary tour package from Haridwar — transport, KMVN bungalow or eco-camp accommodation, all meals, certified guide, and jeep safari. Before You Visit Binsar

Binsar is best approached as a slow experience — the Zero Point view is the destination but the journey through the oak forest is equally valuable. No cars are allowed on the sanctuary trails — this forces you to walk and the forest rewards it. The walk from the sanctuary gate to Zero Point is 3 km (1 hour easy walk). Do it very early morning (before 8 AM) — the Himalayan panorama gets hazy by mid-morning. A 300 km sweep from Kedarnath to Panchachuli on a clear October morning from Zero Point is one of the finest views in the Kumaon Himalaya.
