3 Days · 3000m · Chir Pine & Oak Forest · Garhwal · Nature Trek
The chirbatiya forest trek winds through one of Garhwal's most atmospheric chir pine and oak forests in Uttarakhand, climbing from dense pine stands to a banj oak canopy before reaching an open ridge at 3000m with sweeping Himalayan panoramas. Chirbatiya elevation at the ridge makes it accessible yet rewarding — the trail covers approximately 12 km return, rated Easy-Moderate and suitable for families, birdwatchers, and first-time nature trekkers. From Dehradun it is 100–120 km; from Haridwar the base village is 180 km (5–7 hours' drive). This is one of the most uncrowded and peaceful chir pine nature trails in Garhwal.
Birdwatching here is excellent — the route passes through distinct zones harbouring flycatchers, laughing thrushes, woodpeckers, and leaf warblers in the lower section, with Himalayan monal, cheer pheasant, Eurasian jay, and nutcracker in the upper oak belt. The wildlife sanctuary section shelters leopard (rarely seen, often heard at night), barking deer, porcupine, langur, and red fox. The chirbatiya weekend trek is popular with nature lovers based in Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh as a 2–3 day forest escape.
Dev Yatra arranges the chirbatiya forest trek with comfortable base accommodation, certified local naturalist guide, all meals, and forest permits included. The itinerary can be combined with Lansdowne, Dhanaulti, or Chakrata for a multi-day Garhwal circuit. Call or WhatsApp +91-8057146497 for booking and availability.

Chirbatiya forest walk inside Binsar sanctuary is genuinely one of the most underrated nature walks in Kumaon. The old-growth banj oak forest is the experience, not a distant view. Walk slowly. Stop often. Listen to the birds. Bring binoculars if you have them. The forest trail from the sanctuary road to the Chirbatiya Danda meadow is about 6 km return. A forest department guide is required inside the sanctuary and is arranged at the gate. Morning (7–9 AM) is when the forest is most active.
The chirbatiya forest trek is one of Garhwal Uttarakhand's most rewarding low-altitude nature trails — a quiet, unhurried walk through chir pine, banj oak, and rhododendron forest that opens onto a 3000m ridge with wide Himalayan views. Trek distance is approximately 12 km return from the base village, with chirbatiya elevation at the viewpoint ridge around 3000m. The trail is rated Easy-Moderate and is suitable for families with older children, birdwatchers, and nature photographers who want a genuine Garhwal forest experience without a high-altitude commitment. From Dehradun the trail area is 100–120 km, making it ideal as a chirbatiya weekend trek.
Best time is March to June and September to November — spring brings rhododendron bloom and active birdwatching, autumn gives clear ridge views and lush post-monsoon forest. The trail remains walkable in winter (December–February) with possible snow on the upper section. The wildlife sanctuary sections shelter leopard, barking deer, langur, porcupine, and red fox; the birds checklist spans flycatchers, warblers, woodpeckers, Himalayan monal, and cheer pheasant. The route follows the main forest road before a foot trail leads into the canopy — our certified guide identifies species and tracks throughout.
The chirbatiya forest trek route passes through three distinct vegetation zones: lower chir pine (Pinus roxburghii, characteristic tree of the chirbatiya range), mid-elevation mixed oak-rhododendron, and upper banj oak with open meadow patches. The trail is well-graded with no exposed sections — difficulty level is consistently Easy-Moderate throughout. A route map and briefing are provided by Dev Yatra before departure. No chirbatiya la pass or high-altitude crossing is involved — this is a classic Garhwal forest nature trail.
Dev Yatra's package includes transport from Haridwar, base accommodation, all meals, forest permits, and a certified local guide. The itinerary can be extended with Lansdowne, Dhanaulti, or Chakrata to create a full Garhwal forest circuit.
