Dhanaulti is a hill station in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand at 2286 metres above sea level, situated on the road between Mussoorie and Chamba. It is a quiet alternative to the crowded Mussoorie, just 24 km away, and offers a more peaceful environment with views of the Garhwal Himalayan range. The town is surrounded by dense forests of deodar, oak, and rhododendron.
The ECO Park in Dhanaulti is maintained by the Forest Department and has two sections — one with flower gardens and another with forest paths and valley views. It is the main attraction for most visitors. Surkanda Devi Temple, 8 km from Dhanaulti at 2757 metres, is an important goddess temple reached by a 2 km uphill walk from the motorable road. The views from the temple ridge are excellent. During winter, Dhanaulti is one of the more accessible snow destinations from Dehradun and Haridwar.
Apple orchards around Dhanaulti are in bloom from late March to April and produce apples from August onwards. The Kanatal village, 12 km from Dhanaulti, is a base for camping and has its own peaceful surroundings. Dhanaulti can be combined with Mussoorie and Kanatal on a Garhwal hills short break. Dhanaulti works best for 1–2 nights — more than that and you may run out of things to do. The Eco Park is the main attraction and takes 2–3 hours. Surkhanda Devi (8 km away) adds a half day. If you want snow, go between December and February — but carry warm clothes and check road conditions before driving. The Dhanaulti–Mussoorie–Dehradun triangle is a convenient circuit from Delhi. Most Delhi visitors drive Friday night to Dhanaulti, spend Saturday, and return Sunday. Accommodation in Dhanaulti ranges from basic rooms to good mountain resorts — the better properties book up on weekends so plan ahead.
