Jim Corbett National Park — India's oldest national park (established 1936) — sits in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Named after the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett, this park is a haven for the Bengal Tiger.
The park is divided into 6 zones: Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela, Durga Devi, and Sonanadi. Each zone offers unique wildlife sightseeing experiences.
The star attraction — Jim Corbett has one of the highest tiger densities in India
Large herds of wild elephants roam the park freely
Thousands of chital, sambar, and barasingha in open meadows
Pallas's fish eagle, great hornbill, ruddy shelduck — birder's paradise
Winter season. Best time for tiger sightings. Dry vegetation makes spotting easier. Pleasant weather. Dhikala zone open only in winter. Book early for Dhikala stays.
Spring to early summer. Good wildlife sightings. Jeep safaris available. Bijrani, Jhirna, and Dhela zones open. Some zones close before monsoon.
Jim Corbett National Park is mostly closed in monsoon. Only Jhirna and Dhela zones remain open. Safari availability is limited. Not recommended for wildlife tourists.
