About Mayali Pass Trek

Mayali Pass (5320m) is a high Himalayan pass that links the Kedarnath valley in Rudraprayag district with the Badrinath valley in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. Crossing the pass gives a traverse between two of the most sacred valleys in Garhwal — the Mandakini river valley (Kedarnath) and the Alaknanda river valley (Badrinath). The pass crossing is demanding and involves glacier travel on the Kedarnath side.

The route goes from Kedarnath (3583m), past the Vasuki Tal lake (5050m), and over the Mayali Pass before descending into the Badrinath valley via Ghastoli. The Vasuki Tal lake, a sacred lake above Kedarnath associated with the divine serpent Vasuki, is itself a significant destination and gives outstanding views of Kedarnath peak and Kedardome. The pass also appears as a variant route on the Auden's Col circuit.

Mayali Pass requires glacier experience, crampon competence, and high-altitude fitness. It is best attempted in May-June or September when snow conditions are more stable. Dev Yatra arranges Mayali Pass trek packages from Haridwar with all technical equipment, experienced Kedarnath-based guide, camping, and full logistical support for the traverse.

About Mayali Pass Crossing

Mayali Pass is for expedition-grade mountaineers, not recreational trekkers. If you are asking whether you are ready for Mayali Pass, the honest answer is: probably not yet. Build up to it with Kedartal or Satopanth first, then consider Auden's Col. The crossing requires confident crampon and ice axe use, camping at 5000m+, and glacier route-finding. The Kedarnath to Badrinath traverse via Mayali connects two of India's most sacred valleys through genuinely wild terrain. September–October is the only realistic window.
