Before You Trek Nag Tibba

Nag Tibba is the most honest 'first Himalayan trek' option for Delhi residents. The summit at 3022m gives a genuine high-altitude experience without a week away from work. The overnight camp under stars with a bonfire and waking up for a sunrise summit is the experience — do not reduce this to a day hike if you want the real thing. The 2-hour drive from Dehradun to Pantwari is partly on a rough road — avoid if you have severe back problems. The forest section of the trail has leeches in monsoon season — wear covered shoes and avoid July–August unless you specifically want leeches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is Nag Tibba trek good for beginners?
Yes. Nag Tibba is the most recommended first trek for beginners in Uttarakhand. The trail is short, well-marked, and the summit altitude (3022m) is manageable. Suitable for ages 12 and above with basic fitness.
Q. How far is Pantwari from Haridwar?
Pantwari is about 100 km from Haridwar via Rishikesh, Mussoorie road, and Dehradun-Nainbagh road. Drive takes about 3-3.5 hours.
Q. Is there accommodation at Nag Tibba?
Pantwari village has basic guesthouses. On the trek, camping in tents is the standard option. We provide quality 2-person tents with sleeping mats.
Q. Can Nag Tibba be done as a day trip?
Technically yes, but it is very tiring to do the full 10 km round trip (base village to summit and back) in one day plus the 3-hour drive. An overnight camp at the base is strongly recommended.
Q. What is the best time to see snow at Nag Tibba?
December, January, and February give the best snow at the summit. The trail from the forest section may also have snow in December-January. In March, snow starts melting but may still be present on north-facing slopes.
Q. How many days is the Nag Tibba trek?
Nag Tibba is typically a 2-day, 1-night trek. Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Pantwari, trek to base camp (3 hrs). Day 2: Early morning summit (2 hrs up), views, return to Pantwari, drive back. Dev Yatra runs weekend departures every Friday–Saturday from Dehradun.
Q. Can I do Nag Tibba in a day?
Yes, a fit trekker can do Nag Tibba as a very long day trip from Dehradun. The summit and return takes 5–6 hours from Pantwari. However an overnight camp with bonfire and sunrise views is a much richer experience and strongly recommended.
