5 Days · 3650m Ridge · Continuous Himalayan Views · Wildflower Season
Phulara ridge trek is a high ridgeline walk in the Uttarkashi district of Garhwal, Uttarakhand, at 3650 metres altitude. The name Phulara literally means flower ridge — from mid-May through June the open ridge is carpeted with Himalayan wildflowers: primulas, anemones, gentians, and rhododendrons lower in the forest. What distinguishes this route from almost every other trail in Uttarakhand is the sustained nature of the panoramic view — Bandarpunch, Jaonli, Draupadi Ka Danda, and the Gangotri group stay visible continuously as you walk several kilometres along the crest, not just at a single summit point.
The starting point is Barsu village (~190 km from Haridwar, 6–7 hours drive via Uttarkashi and Bhatwari). The trail climbs 7 km through rhododendron and oak forest before the ridge opens up. Total distance across the 5-day itinerary is approximately 25 km. Difficulty level is Moderate — no technical sections, but the altitude gain and ridge exposure demand reasonable fitness. The best time is May–June for wildflowers and September–October for clear autumn skies and sharp peak views. Winter (November–April) brings snow to the ridge and is not suitable for casual trekkers.
Because Barsu is also the trailhead for Dayara Bugyal, the two routes combine naturally into a 7–8 day package from Haridwar. Dev Yatra runs 5-day Phulara ridge trek packages covering Haridwar transport, Barsu guesthouse stay, ridge camping, all meals, guide, and permits. Temperature on the ridge ranges from −2°C at night in shoulder months to 15°C in daytime during spring and early summer.
Ridge covered in Himalayan wildflowers May-June. Dozens of species carpet the high open terrain.
Continuous views of Bandarpunch, Jaonli, and Gangotri peaks throughout the ridgeline walk.
Walking along the ridge (not just to the top) is unusual in Uttarakhand. Multi-kilometre ridge traverse.
Both treks start from Barsu/Raithal area. 7-8 day itinerary covers both easily.

All our treks start from Haridwar . Reach Haridwar first:

Delhi ISBT to Haridwar by Volvo (6 hrs). State buses connect Haridwar to all base towns.
Delhi to Haridwar 210 km (4-5 hrs via NH-58). Pickup from Delhi/Chandigarh/Dehradun available.
Phulara Ridge is one of the most satisfying short treks in Uttarakhand because you are walking on the ridge itself throughout — not approaching a summit and returning. The continuous panorama with valleys on both sides and Bandarpunch and Swargarohini ahead makes every step visually rewarding. October–November is the best season — clear blue sky, golden deodar forest, and brilliant mountain light. The trail is not crowded even in peak season. Start from Phulara village (accessible by road from Sankri) in the morning.
Almost every Himalayan trek follows the same structure: ascend through forest, reach a summit viewpoint, descend. Phulara ridge trek breaks this pattern entirely — you walk along the ridge crest for several kilometres with panoramic views on both sides throughout. Bandarpunch (6315m), Jaonli, Draupadi Ka Danda, and the Gangotri massif stay in sight for hours, not minutes. This sustained visual experience is rare in Garhwal trekking.
The best time for the trek is split between two windows. May–June brings the wildflower bloom — primulas, anemones, and gentians carpet the high ridge while rhododendrons colour the forest below. September–October is the autumn window with crystal-clear skies, golden forest, and sharp mountain light. Winter (November–April) leaves snow on the ridge and is not suitable without specialist equipment.
The ridge sits at 3650m (max 3800m). The base at Barsu village is around 2400m, giving an altitude gain of roughly 1250m over 7 km on Day 2. Total trail distance across the itinerary is approximately 25 km over 3 trekking days. Difficulty level is Moderate — no ropes or technical equipment needed, but the sustained climb and ridge altitude require cardio fitness. Daily walking distances are 7–10 km, manageable for anyone who prepares with 2–3 weeks of regular exercise.
Barsu village is 190 km from Haridwar — a 6–7 hour drive via Rishikesh, Tehri, Uttarkashi, and Bhatwari. Dev Yatra's 5-day package covers the full Haridwar–Barsu–Haridwar transfer, guesthouse and tent accommodation, all meals on trek, local guide, and permits. Because Barsu is also the starting point for Dayara Bugyal, combining both treks in a 7–8 day itinerary from Haridwar is straightforward.
